Before you sign up

All candidates for initial certification in EMR, EMT and AEMT must meet the following requirements:

• 18 year of age or older

• high school diploma or GED equivalent from a Louisiana accredited high school

• must be physically fit and able to perform the duties of an EMR, EMT, and/or AEMT (physical lifting is considered an essential job requirement)

• prospective students must pass a criminal background check with Louisiana State Police (proof of application required PRIOR to starting class)

• computer literate, able to independently navigate through on-line learning portals, access to a laptop/desktop with a reliable high-speed internet connection; and

• able to provide proof of vaccination status for MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis), meningitis, Varicella, Hep B, seasonal influenza, and negative TB skin test (or negative chest x-ray)
